Homemade Bird Feeders

This week we decided to make some homemade bird feeders to encourage more wild birds into our backyard. We made two different bird feeders - a pine cone feeder and a citrus feeder. Both were really simple to make and my toddler loved helping, as well as taste testing!

You will need:

* A little bit  of honey
* Wild bird seed
* Half an orange, without the flesh (you can eat this first)
* String
* Peanut butter
* A pine cone
* Spoon
* Container for mixing
* A few berries (optional)

Pine Cone Bird Feeder

First taste test the peanut butter (we were a little bit confused about who we were making lunch for)

Spread peanut butter all over the pine cone.

Roll the pine cone in wild bird seed, until it covers most of the peanut butter.

Carefully tie a piece of string to the base of the pine cone and hang in a tree.

Citrus Bird Feeder

Pour the bird seed into the container. Add honey and mix together.

Get most of the flesh out of the orange.

Have a quick snack on the wild bird seed (or maybe not)! Spoon the honey and bird seed mixture into the orange half.

Top with a few berries (optional). Then find a suitable place to sit your bird feeder. We chose the top of the fence post so our sneaky chickens didn't steal them.

 Now all you have to do is wait for the birds to arrive for lunch x
