Cloud Dough (or Moon Sand)

Cloud dough (also known as moon sand) is made up of two common pantry ingredients - flour and vegetable/cooking oil. If you have older children it also works really well with baby oil. My little boy is still at the stage where he puts everything in his mouth so I've opted for the toddler safe option.

Mix together 4 cups of flour and half a cup of vegetable/cooking oil. The cloud dough should feel really light and fluffy. You'll be able to mould it into different things, but it will also crumble easily.

I put our cloud dough into a plastic 16 L container and then added some plastic cups and spoons. It's a messy sensory activity so we played with it outside today.

My little boy loved trying to scoop up his cloud dough, playing with the measuring spoons and tipping the dough out onto the blanket.

The chickens even came over to explore and have a bit of cloud dough for lunch.

My little boy thought this was pretty funny!

Patting his best friends while they keep trying to eat the cloud dough.

Once you've finished playing with your cloud dough, store it in a container with a lid and it should last quite a while. Cloud dough can also be coloured with tempera paint powder for other children.
